Pietro SEMINELLI
Textile artist, Folded-paper artist
Craft National Living Treasures 2006
The art of folding is anchored in a specialised knowledge of geometry and its construction rules, and in a faithful observation of natural models. Origami, the art of folding in Japan, is a fun illustration.
The theoretical know-how of the folder, expressed through the “mountain fold” and the “valley fold,” is an adaptation of the geometric wefts with a rigorous and often complex layout, that makes it possible to transform a surface into architecture going even as far as the volume.
Pietro Seminelli uses this unique writing in each of his creations. He principally explores this language in the delicacy of the transparent fabric of which he has the secret. They are veritable fabric stained glass windows, to the learned, transparencies that find their place in domains as varied as haute couture, interior architecture, costume art, sculpture.
Pietro Seminelli revealed his talent during his diverse collaborations with architects, scenographer/decorators and grand couturiers. He participated in numerous upmarket professional shows, and occasionally exposes his works in art galleries in France and abroad.
“The folds are fascinatingly complex, they are the signature of elegance,”
