Pierre LALLIER
Intaglio printer
Craft National Living Treasures 1995

The Atelier Georges Leblanc, etching publisher and metal engraver puts in shape contemporary creation thanks to a secular workmanship.

Jean Charles REMOND founded the workshop situated on the 15, rue Saint Jacques in 1793, and in there, most of the prints of the huge “Description de l’Egypte” at the time of the Empire, and the famous “Roses” by Redouté had been printed.

In 1863, the prosperous company is left to Alfred SALMON who develops it and moves it in 1880 to the 187, rue Saint Jacques, where it is still located nowadays.

Salmon opens his workshop to original engravings and prints, among others, Degas’, Picasso’s or Manet’s engravings. In 1895 his grandson Alfred PORCABEUF succeeds to him and perpetuates his art ; Munch, Kupka, Rodin... frequent his workshop, and in 1946 Georges LEBLANC takes over the place. Young artists are invited there to work and so DeStaël, Friedlander, Courtin mix with Jacques Villon, Vieira Da Silva, Bissière... Maurice and Pierre LALLIER take over the workshop in 1968 and perpetuate the tradition of inviting contemporary artists in there. An exhibition gallery recently set up in the workshop presents the artists’ works published by the workshop.
