Jean-Claude DUPLESSIS
Architectural exterior ornament- designer and maker
Craft National Living Treasures 1996
Jean Claude Duplessis’s workshop is specialized in work on copper, zinc and lead. Its activity has essentially turned to reproduction, creation and restoration of covering ornaments or to any other object made of one of these materials.
The workshop is located in the Nièvre in Raveau ( 3 miles away from La Charité sur Loire) and 6 employees work there.
The company makes on the one hand elements in copper, zinc and lead, and on the other hand restores damaged art objects or parts of art objects.Employees work either from plans or drawings or with the object itself and, in case of original creations, their work can also be based on a sculpture or a moulding.
The ornament art requires in first place the creation of a matrix, and then work on metal itself, that must be manufactured, assembled, welded, engraved or embossed. The company owns all the necessary tools to fulfil these stages : a foundry workshop, an embossing wheel, a press, but also every traditional and manual tool such as the tas bigorne and other hammersEvery object is conceived and made in the company.
