Eric SANSON
wood Marquetry, cabinetmaker,
Craft National Living Treasures 2004
As a successor of our father R. SANSON who has been appointed Best Workman of France, who created the Cabinet making workshop in 1959, we are both, Dominique (cabinet maker) and Eric (inlayer) Master Artisan, First prize-winners of “Métiers d’Art” of the town hall of Paris.
Prize-winners “Craftsman and Arts craft of Club Dunhill Prestige International and Master of Art.
We are heir to a long tradition of the main cabinetmaker master and inlayer from the past; we admire their work that is our main professional reference. Our knowledge and control of traditional techniques and know-how in marketer and cabinetwork is guided by a wish t realize contemporary furniture (Louis XIV was surrounded wit many avant-guardist artists and artisans in order to constitute a cultural heritage recognized all over the world) and to participate, thanks to creation and making, in furniture’s evolution and the construction of a new heritage to transmit. The Ministry of Culture and Communication has approved this initiative and awarded the title of Master of Art to the workshop.
In our point of view, our role is different depending on the various clientele’s demand (individuals, collectors, creators, decorators, jewellers…) Sometimes the demand is very precise and we interfere only as performers; sometimes the request is very punctual in the drawing and we manage the technical adjustments. It happens also that the client’s demand is vague; at that time we are in charge of the technical adaptation and realisation.
All these realisations are resulting from exchanges and discussion based on listening, respect. They are a demonstration for limited person to sustain creation in order to smarten up his environment and to testify for the following generations and the opportunity to show the traditional know-how.
