Bernard DEJONGHE
Sculptor in Glass, Ceramic artist
Craft National Living Treasures 2006
Knowledge and an in-depth technical practice of ceramics and glass have lead Bernard Dejonghe to transgress the uses that one usually makes of them, and to consider them as ways of expression in their own right and not as simple execution procedures.
Nourishing himself on a meditation of the material, his work broke with the universe of the object, in order to concentrate on that of the minerality and of the energies put into play by the fusion. He considers the material as a poetic, savage place, a field of possibilities and a support of experimentation. His work is at the borderline of scientific refection and art.
Since his studies at the école des métiers d’art in Paris, he participated in numerous exhibitions in France and in the world.
Personal exhibitions at the Musée des Arts Décoratif (Museum of Decorative arts) in Paris, Musée d’art contemporain (Museum of Contemporary Art) in Nice, Dunkerque, Arles… Ariana Museum in Geneva…
His works are present in the collections of the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, Corning Museum in New York, HoKKaido Museum of Modern Art in Japan, Ceramic Museum of Faenza in Italy, Incheon Museum in Korea…
He received the Grand Prix National de la Culture (National Grand Prize of Culture) for the Art Trades in 1995, and the Bettencourt prize in 2001.
